Meet Our Pros

 

Rick is our Tennis Director and truly loves the sport of tennis. He has been named the USPTA New England Professional of the Year. He has coached juniors to over 300 national rankings and over 50 #1 New England rankings. USTA selected Rick as one of 11 coaches to lead a pilot program for Training Centers.

Bob joined the Thoreau Tennis staff in 2000. He has a BS in Health Planning and Administration from Penn State University where he was a member of the highly ranked Nittany Lion Wrestling Team. He has a an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Bob is a multi-sport athlete and applies the fitness, physical skills and experience from other sports toward his current specialization in tennis. As a serious student of the game, Bob utilizes principles of sport science and biomechanics to improve students' skills and is particularly interested in match strategy and tactics for developing competitive players.
  Deb has been on the tennis staff at Thoreau Club since 1982. Deb has a wide range of experience from coaching many women's teams to being an active part of the beginner junior player. She gets great satisfaction seeing the development of the juniors over the years - until she meets them later as her opponent in competitive leagues!
  Frank has been a Tennis Professional at Thoreau Club since 1999. He spent four years as the Assistant Tennis Professional/Shop Manager at the Athens Country Club i Georgia and five years as a staff Professional and Head Racket Stringer at the VanDerMeer Tennis University in South Carolina. Frank coaches adults and juniors and is Thoreau Club's racket stringer and equipment expert.
  Hope has over 15 years of teaching experience. She was a nationally ranked junior and former #1 singles and doubles player at Boston College. Hope was the Director of Junior Tennis at The Chatham Beach and Tennis Club, Tennis Professional at The Manhattan Beach and Tennis Club, and the Director of Tennis at The Sudbury Swim and Tennis Club. Hope was recently at Milton Academy working in the Dean's office and coached the girls' varsity tennis team.
 

Ian played the International Tennis Circuit from 1968-77 and achieved a top 50 world ranking. In 1972 Ian reached the 4th round at Wimbledon and the French Open. He won International Tournaments in the USA, Israel, Japan, Spain, Malaysia, Australia, England, France, Holland and Ireland. Ian established and directed Ian Fletcher School of Tennis at Bolton Valley Resort, Vermont in the summers from 1980-92. Ian’s knowledge of the game and competitive experience with his own kids sets him apart as a top Tennis Pro.

  Jeff was the Tennis Director and Head Pro of the Manitowoc/Two Rivers YMCA. He also was the Head Pro at Oshkosh YMCA. Jeff has taught at the Nike Adult Tennis Camp in Amherst for the past several summers. Jeff has a BA from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh where he played tennis and was captain his senior year.
  Noah has a BA in business marketing management from Ferris State University in the Professional Tennis Management program. Noah attained certifications in Sports Science, Pro Shop Operations, Video Analysis and is USRSA certified in racket stringing and customizations. He spent summers working for the Nike Adult Tennis Camps in Amherst as a teaching professional and head stringer. Noah was the Junior Player Development Coach in Springfield, MO. Noah specializes in the technical aspects of the body's operations while playing the game of tennis.
  Salim has been a competitive tennis player since the age of 7. In his native country, Morocco, he reached a #8 ranking Tennis Junior in High School. He was part of the team at Bloomsburg University that reached the NCAA Div. III Nationals three years in a row. Salim has been the director and coach of several tennis programs including Ferncroft Country Club, JCC in Newton and Winchester Indoor Lawn and Tennis Center. He is currently the Head Pro at Nashawtuc Country Club.
  Steve has been a member of the Thoreau Tennis staff since 1999. Steve has a Ph.D in Sports Psychololgy/Motor Behavior from the University of Connecticut. He is a member of the USTA/NE and USPTA/NE Sports Science Committees and has worked for the USTA Player Development Program. Steve is the Tennis Coach for the Lincoln-Sudbury High School Boys Tennis Team. Dr. Thuot published tennis related sport science articles in academic journals and tennis publications. He also consults with several college teams including Assumption College Basketball and Tennis Teams and the UNH Ski Team.
  Arlene, Pat and Tracy are not tennis Pros, but they work together to keep the tennis programs organized, schedule lessons, organize social matches and more!
