Fall 2010
Please read the American Red Cross swim lessons descriptions to ensure that your child is placed in a correct level. The Thoreau Club is following the new guidelines for levels that are in place with the American Red Cross. If you have questions please feel free to call us at 978-831-1214 and ask for a WSI. If you are unsure of your childs level, an instructor will be happy to provide a complimentary swim evaluation.
Preschool Aquatics
P Level 1 Orients children to the aquatic environment and helps them gain basic aquatic skills (ages 2 1/2yrs to 4yrs)
P Level 2 Helps Children gain greater independence in their skills and develop more comfort in and in around water. (ages 2 1/2yrs to 4yrs)
P Level 3 Helps children start to gain basic swimming propulsive skills to be comfortable in and around water. (ages 2 1/2yrs to 4yrs)
Learn to Swim
Level 1 Introduction to Water Skills. Helps participants feel comfortable in the water.
Level 2 Fundamental Aquatic Skills. Gives participants success with fundamental skills.
Level 3 Stroke Development. Builds on the skills in Level 2 through additional guided practice in deeper water.
Level 4 Stroke Improvement. Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills.
Level 5 Stroke Refinement. Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
Level 6 Swimming and Skills Proficiency. Refines the strokes so participants swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances
